FEP 2012 Beta 2 available for download

Posted on May 16, 2011May 18, 2011 by Jörgen Nilsson

Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 Beta 2 is now available!

During the second half of 2011 Microsoft will release the next version of System Center Configuration Manager 2012 and in near future after that a new version of FEP will also be released. The new version of FEP will be integrated with SCCM 2012 so you can use all the new features available in SCCM 2012 like rolebased delegation and much more.

The Forefront Endpoint Protection 2012 Beta 2 which is available now have all the integration with SCCM 2012 built in. So are you testing and playing around with SCCM 2012 Beta 2, I really recommend that you download and install FEP 2012 Beta 2 as well so you are ready for it when it is released. The FEP client is still 2010, it is only the integration with SCCM 2012 that is new.

SCCM 2012 Beta 2 can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=4da60258-5e61-4d16-8fae-d3c9fccf56dc

First, typo in the previous post. Should be “The FEP 2012 Beta 2 installer is for FEP 2010 Beta.” Second, the FEP client is the same but the server installer is for FEP 2012 Beta 2. Sorry for the confusionl

Can’t really find the answer to this on the net, so here’s hoping you have something on the FEP2012 install.

In a three tier CM2012 install (CAS, Primary and secondaries or just DP’s), I understand that the FEP gets installed on the CAS. But does that mean for all clients, the definitions are downloaded from the CAS (as CAS cannot have client assigments) or are they distributed to the Primaries and downstreamed to the secondaries/DP’s as well?

In short how do the FEP clients get their definitions in such a scenario?

    Thanks in advance

    Ashley
